Getting Paid: Commissions Explained
First things first: Where do travel agent commissions come from? How do they get from supplier to host to travel agent? How does a supplier know who gets what?
Suppliers pay out a certain percentage of the total amount paid for booking your clients trip with them. Using a host agency gets you top percentages for commission as these suppliers look at the total amount of ALL bookings made through the host, not just you! When you call/log-in to make a booking, the supplier asks for your travel agency's accreditation number (you'll get to know this 8 number code as well as your ss #). This is how they know who to send the commissions to. Then, after your client travels the supplier sends out your commission payment and it then gets sent to you! Commissions usually run between 10-37% of the total amount booked (excluding air). Your net commission amount is based on the amount of sales you generate. Still not sure what all this means? No worries, we'll explain more during our chat! What's most important is having a passion for being a Travel Agent and be willing to learn.
